Dr. E. Jerome McCarthy is former professor of Marketing at Michigan State University, and the principal co-author of the “Product-Market-Analysis” component of Planned Innovation® with Dr. Bacon. He is an internationally recognized consultant and a leading author of marketing texts, including Basic Marketing published by Richard D. Irwin (now in its 15th edition with McGraw Hill) that has been the most widely used college-level marketing text for many years. He assisted with the teaching of the market-oriented planning and management aspects of Planned Innovation in a number of firms in the US, Europe, Latin America, South Africa and India. These included United Nations businessmen in Costa Rica, Grupo Industrial Alfa and Cordemex in Mexico, Dow Chemical in US and Europe, and Dow Corning, Lear Siegler, Rockwell, Steelcase and Bemis and Sarns-3M in the US.

Dr. McCarthy also founded and served as director of several smaller businesses including Grid Publishing Company and Lansing Ice Arena. He received his BS from Northwestern University, and an MA and PhD from the University of Minnesota.

He lives in East Lansing, Michigan.
